Call for papers


The International Conference on Education, Saint Augustine, Teacher for the 21st century is an international research and academic dissemination project of UNICERVANTES in alliance with the Augustinian Institute at VILLANOVA UNIVERSITY.

Its mission is to circulate studies, ideas and experiences on education around the contributions of Augustinian thought within different thematic lines: education models, educational management, humanistic education, didactic values and virtues, social innovation in education, educational welfare and pastoral care.

The Conference will feature high quality lectures by international experts in the areas of education and Augustinian thought:


The organizing committee opens the call for participants who wish to apply and submit a paper that follows the main theme of the Conference on Augustinian thought and its possible links with educational and pastoral areas such as:

  1. Augustinian thought and educational models
    Research and theoretical reflection on studies, current movements, works or outstanding authors that relate Augustinian thought and educational models.
  2. Educational management and its interconnection with humanistic education Management experiences of Augustinian educational centers, success cases, curricula of humanistic subjects, implementation of the Augustinian chair, etc.
  3. Didactics of values and virtues Methodologies and teaching tools, classroom strategies, pedagogical activities, virtual pedagogy, technology for education, etc.
  4. Social innovation in education Approaches, studies or experiences in which Augustinian thought is connected with education for social commitment, community, the common good, justice, political action, inclusion, solidarity, etc.
  5. Educational welfare and pastoral Experiences in the psychological or spiritual context in which Augustinian thought is projected on institutional well-being, academic community life quality, prevention of student desertion, accompaniment to students' difficulties, growth in the experience of God, etc.

Guidelines for writing the papers

  • They can be written in Spanish or English.
  • Font: Times New Roman 12 points, line spacing 1.5, letter size and 3 cm. by 3 cm margins.
  • Appointments and references according to the Chicago Style 16th Edition manual.
  • When using images, graphs or tables, they must be numbered and have their corresponding title and source.
  • It should be written as a book chapter with an extension of between 8,000 and 10,000 words and have the following structure:
  1. Title of maximum fifteen (15) words. When the document is linked to a research group, the name of the research project and the university or institution should be indicated.
  2. Author. As a footnote there must be a summary of the author’s studies and institutional linkage.
  3. Summary in the language of the document of maximum one hundred (100) words.
  4. Keywords. Maximum 6.
  5. Title, abstract and keywords in English.
  6. Introduction, development and conclusions.

Guidelines for the submission of papers

  • The maximum number of papers that can be submitted by the same speaker or group of speakers is 1.
  • The selection criteria of the papers will be based on the relevance to the proposed thematic lines, their innovative character, the clarity of the writing, as well as the adaptation to the present indications.
  • The selected speakers will have a significant discount on the fee of the Conference, will present their paper at the relevant thematic table, the article will be published in a digital book (with ISBN) about the Conference and will receive an Assistant and Speaker certificates.
  • The reading or presentation of each paper should not exceed 20 minutes, and can be done in Spanish or English.

  • Early Bird Registration Deadline: January 15, 2019.
  • Deadline for Submitting Papers: February 22, 2019.
  • Date of Notification Paper Acceptance: March 4, 2019.
  • Conference date: 23, 24 and 25 April 2019.
